A practical, weight-inclusive approach to help you build a healthier and happier relationship with food, mind, and body,
and bring back the joy to eating.
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Andrea Stokes and I am a registered dietitian (RD) and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. My passion lies in helping clients to improve their relationship with food and start living a life that includes joyful, satisfying, and stress-free eating.
I believe that the pursuit of wellness has become overwhelming, confusing, and often feels out of reach. Misinformation abounds, and individuals are often left struggling to sort out fact from fiction. I work with clients to deliver evidence-based, honest, and practical advice to guide them towards their own definition of health.
When it comes to nutrition, I practice from a weight-inclusive, non-diet, neurodiversity-affirming approach with a focus on building a healthy relationship with food. This means breaking free from unnecessary food rules and restriction and instead encouraging clients to honour their body and nutritional needs, while also being able to enjoy food and all the benefits it brings to our lives.
I am passionate about dismantling diet-culture and the oppressive and discriminatory health and beauty ideals that are at its roots, separating fact from fiction when it comes to body size and health, and advocating for respectful and compassionate health care for all bodies.
Together, we can shift your mindset to focus on the priorities that are important to you to feel your best, with practical, personalized, and impactful advice to help wellness work for you.
Land Acknowledgement
We respectfully acknowledge the land on which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, whose culture has been lost forever and can never be recovered. We also acknowledge the island of Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) as the unceded, traditional territory of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq. And we acknowledge Labrador as the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come.
We recognize the dietetic profession’s role and responsibility in the history of oppression of Indigenous peoples, the effects of which continue today. We also recognize and value the integral role of food in maintaining cultural practices, traditions, social relationships, and cultural identity.
As First Peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect the cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of Truth and Reconciliation to make a better future for all.
Many thanks to First Light NL for their guidance on this land acknowledgement. https://firstlightnl.ca/resources/land-acknowledgment/
